Summary/Abstract: The home makeover shows on television construct the idea that by redecorating one’s home and reflecting on it, one engages in the construction of the ideal self. This article focuses on the Finnish home makeover shows Inno and Kodin kääntöpiiri and their representations of gendered selves. In the programs examined, a reflexive stance to gender attributes of home decoration is often explicit, while the relationship between class and taste is a more elusive question. The shows are explored as a part of contemporary television culture, which is characterized by a greater prevalence of global television formats and reality television. The article illustrates that despite the increasing globalization of television, the national contexts¸and differences between national program contents are also important to explore.
