Summary/Abstract: The article is dealing with one of the most important function provided from political partiesthe candidate selection-having two main goals. The first one it’s to study how the Romanian parties select their candidates to be elected in Parliament and the second one it’s to see how the type of the national electoral system it’s connected with the candidate selection process. The paper shows that the Romanian parties use a variety of methods but essentially their selectorates are located at the superior levels of the party’s elite. Using a a short comparative analysis this article also shows how the national electoral systems are not decisive for the candidate selection methods and therefore are not the main tool but just one of them, toward a responsible political class.
