Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the changes in the distribution of pig production in the European Union in the years 2003-2010. Particular attention was paid to the economic and political causes of the observed trends. The results prove that the market competition, as well as the obligation to comply with EU standards have contributed to the concentration phenomena in the sector. Consequently, small-scale production has not been justified from the microeconomic point of view. Moreover, the results show that the increase in capital intensity of production has contributed to changes in the geographical allocation of production. In recent years, the production tends to move to the countries where capital resources are in excess in relation to the resources of land and work. These are mainly the UE-15 countries.
