Summary/Abstract: The interaction between language knowledge and specific purpose content knowledge caused the appearance of the specific purpose languages (ESP) use. The need to assess the linguistic abilities of the students engaged in studying ESP, to administer well-constructed tests and to respect good testing practices should be based on theoretical knowledge about and respect of good testing practices. As ESP tests and their interpretation are the final segment of the technical instruction, the paper intends to define the concept of ESP tests, to highlight some key issues of ESP tests such as he relationship linguistic knowledge/ specific content purpose knowledge, and the communicative nature of ESP tasks. The paper also describes ESP tests administered to a group of professors from the point of view of the key issues described above.
