Summary/Abstract: The historian Prof. Carol Göllner PhD. (1911-1995) was a very successful scientist born in Medias. As a student he won the favor and recognition of the Romanian Prime Minister of the time, Nicolae Iorga, who supported him to continue his studies in Paris. On his return to Romania in 1945, Göllner got caught in the clutches of the Secret Service and one year later, in 1946 he had to defend himself before the military court, being charged of supposed high treason. Due to the intervention of a group of historians from Cluj (for example. Prof. Constantin Daicoviciu) he was acquitted from the charge and started working as the director of the periodical “Forschungen zur Volks-und Landeskunde”. Here he developed for many years a rich publishing activity and became a member of the most outstanding scientific institutions and panels in Communist Romania. In 1981 Göllner retired and in 1990 he migrated to Germany. The author aims at presenting objectively the manifold interrelation between Dr. Carol Göllner and the Romanian “Securitate” Service.
