Opportunities for Enhancing the Competitiveness of Enterprises in the Cement Industry in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The present article is a result of scientific research project named “The Modernization and Firm Competitiveness – theoretical and practical aspects and effects”, financed by “Institute for scientific research” in Academy of Economics “D. A. Tsenov”. Object of the research is the Bulgarian cement plants – “Devnya Cement” (Devnya), “Vulcan” (Dimitrovgard), “Holcim Bulgaria” (Beli izlvor), “Plevenski cement” (Pleven) and “Zlatna Panega cement” (Zlatna Panega). The main project goal is to examine the influence of modernization over creation of sustainable competitive advantages in investigated companies. Achievement of the main aim is realized by implementation of tasks like: defining the ordinary state of the cement industry, creating methodologies for analyzing and measuring firm modernization and competitiveness, and their implementation in Bulgarian cement plants. One of the most important purposes of the research is the formulation and validation of ideas that can improve the competitive powers of cement plants.
