Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to approach the Heideggerian interpretation of the famous Plato’s cave allegory from a different angle. The author’s analyses are based on one of Heidegger’s lectures from the academic year 1931/32 (The Essence of Truth. On Plato’s Cave Allegory and Theaetetus), instead of widely known Plato’s Doctrine of Truth (1940) from Pathmarks. In this lecture the original concept of paideia tends to gain a stunningly different meaning (more than in its later and abridged version in Pathmarks) when compared to certain classic interpretations of the concept, such as Bildung or education, and it is considered worthwhile being analysed from this perspective.
