Summary/Abstract: The article is a study of argumentum ad absurdum which takes its origin from apagoge, i.e. indirect proving of facts. The main subject of the article can be found in two versions - logical and eristic. The analysis of various examples used in polemical texts written in contemporary Polish enabled to create a linguistic characteristic of the eristic version which very often is adopted in linguistic manipulation.
