Summary/Abstract: Since joining the European Union in 2004 the banking services in Poland can be delivered upon the basis of the single banking passport. One of the most important consequences of the implementation of this solution in Poland is a growing number of established branches of credit institutions. On the one hand, the existence of branches stimulates competitiveness of Polish banking market, influences the improvement of client service and enhances products’ offer. On the other hand, branches may transmit onto Polish market economic problems of credit institutions, conduct high risk credit policy without proper supervision and decrease the level of society’s confidence toward the whole banking sector. Branches of credit institutions neither rely on the inspection of national supervisory commissions nor participate in the national deposit guarantee systems.
