Summary/Abstract: All over Europe the 19th century is being considered as the most dynamical period of social change. In most cases this concept is related to industrialisation and modernisation. This is mainly true for almost all of the regions from Central and Eastern Europe where the transition to modernity has meant the great step from the mainly agrarian economy to modern capitalist structures. Framing it in this historical background this paper intends to show some of the demographical aspects of how this change has ocurred in a rather peripheral zone from Transylvania, Cristuru Secuiesc. This will be done with the help of historical demographical data that reflect the level of structural changes in this area.
