Summary/Abstract: Thought engrossed in time tells most about Man for whom time is “the range for development”, topos for assessment of the span and meaning of his own existence. Therefore, in concerning himself with the world he is indirectly concerned with himself and his life. Western thought began with the obligatory dictum: “Gnothi seauton” (Know Thyself), an order which continues to bind Mankind even today despite its vast legacy testifying of its successes and its failures. particularly evident in the framework of centuries which become a platform for evaluation of their contents. The century that is now waning has been characterized, in addition to local conflicts, by two world wars and by “socialist” revolutions which distinguish it from preceding centuries in millennia of human existence. Besides denoting densification of historical substance and closing of international antagonisms, which are easily transformed into social conflicts, it offers possibilities of forecasting certain global social transformation in the forthcoming century.
