Summary/Abstract: In critical reviews of Daněk’s dramatic texts, one quite often comes across the opinion that in the form of his drama, Daněk builds upon Brecht’s conception of epic theatre which completely eliminates the direct and topical imitation of people’s behavior as suggested by Aristotle. The play Battle on the Moravian Field (1979), composed of accounts by the direct participants of this defeat 700 years ago, reflects the author’s skepticism regarding the possibilities of reliable perception of events in the remote past. Daněk is obviously not aiming at the creation of dramatic situations full of action that would engage the audience’s emotions (as required by the conception of classical drama), or encourage the percipient’s ability to assess rationally the presented incident (as in the case of Brecht). On the contrary, he uses this conflict of utterances and the contradiction of presented information in order to provoke another dispute. Daněk’s preferences for topical relationships at the cost of a certain unclearness, indefiniteness and incompleteness can be viewed, however, as a kind of thesis-based approach.
