Summary/Abstract: The article provides an interpretation of the series Moim przyjaciołom Żydom [To My Friends, the Jews] where the images used by the artist can be understood as the fragments of the lost archive of a ruined world marked with violence, but also as an act of the ruination of Modernism. Strzemiński’s work not only represents but most of all, in numerous relations between photography, drawings and texts, operates with various degrees and types of violence, each time piercing the viewer’s ethical and aesthetic judgements. The author concentrates on the analysis of selected material and historical aspects of the works from this series and treats them as an act of political engagement as well as a kind of beneficiary violence performing the affective operations both on the materiality of the work and on the „optical consciousness” of the viewer.
