Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the project of affective modern art history in Poland in the perspective of ethics and affirmative humanities. In respect to the specific situation of the post-war art history field in Poland the author addresses the following questions: What is affect? How can the category of affect be applied to studying works of art? Where is affect placed? What dimensions of knowledge on artistic work could be opened by the affective analysis and interpretation? The author also discusses a number of views on post 1939 art from the perspective of empathy which serve her as means to regain and introduce back into art history in Poland two border events/experiences: the year 1968 and the Holocaust.
