Uwarunkowania rozwoju rekreacji zimowej we wschodnich Karkonoszach
Conditions for the development of winter recreation in the eastern part of the Karkonosze mountains

Summary/Abstract: Karkonosze Mts. are a famous tourist region. At the Polish side it does not concern the eastern part of the chain where until recently the industrial function dominated. To the end of the 80s of the XXth century in the town of Kowary (NUTS 5) 11 industrial plants functioned with above 4 thousand workers. In the 90s all factories were closed which resulted in the structural unemployment. The local government wants to restructure the local economy by tourism development . Such an idea appears as unreal in contemporary conditions. The local society is not ready to conduct tourist business and cannot earn money from tourism. Some ideas promoted by the local government (especially infrastructure for winter recreation) are not real in topoclimatic conditions of eastern Karkonosze Mts.
