Summary/Abstract: The article aims to examine the evolution of the order of verbal components of the constructions that consist of a regent verb and an infinitive dependent on one hand, and a regent verb and a participle dependent on the other. The frequency data of archaic constructions is compared with dependent verb put before the regent verb and with constituents interpolation between verbal components in texts from the medieval period and the pre-classical period of Spanish language history. It is shown that the trends are similar for both types of construction, which leads to the conclusion that the causes of syntactic change must be identical in both cases.
