Summary/Abstract: The article presents the approach of companies to the issue of respecting employee interests which was verified by the study of practices in 238 companies operating in Lower Silesia. The reasons for employers’ awareness of the hierarchy of employee interests were examined, together with the identification of instruments used for the recognition of employee interests in companies under study. The study found that regular and comprehensive monitoring of employee interests and expectations was still a rarely used approach. For the most part, companies under study employ informal methods of interest identification in respect to their employees, which proves inadequate for the purpose of long-term evaluation of those potentially important determinants of company operation. Managerial personnel perceives benefits of respecting employee interests, with most responses emphasizing such effects as company attachment, increased loyalty and employee involvement.
