Summary/Abstract: The article examines insufficiently explored problem — shoots prisoners from the camps of the NKVD–MVD in the territory of Estonia. Basing on archival materials, the author traces the process of filling the camps in late 1944 and in 1945, describes the reasons that encouraged the prisoners of war to make sprouts. Particular attention is paid to measures that made the leaders of the camps to prevent escapes. Reducible statistics show that the percentage of successful escapes from the camps in Estonia was significantly higher than in the whole Soviet Union. The main reasons for this state of affairs — the benevolent attitude of the Estonian population to prisoners of war.
