Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the different approaches of the Old-Czech Bible translators and the lexicographer Bartholomeus de Solencia dictus Claretus to the geographical name Syrtis, known from the New Testament (Actus 27, 17). Their approaches to the given toponym had been influenced by their knowledge of its medieval etymological interpretations.
