ROMANIA AND THE US MISSILE SHIELD

Summary/Abstract: The antimissile defense system, which Romania is part of, is set up in the context in which the threats represented by the short and medium range missiles are increasing, its objective being to enhance NATO’s collective security and also Romania’s security. The officials in Bucharest believe that operationalizing the antimissile defense system, as fast as possible, will increase the national security directly, through the protection that it provides for the entire national territory, but also indirectly, because the system will have an important deterrent role, capable of eliminating such a risk or of preventing it from materializing.
