PREVALENCE OF DRUG USE IN SCHOOLS AND AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE AT BISTRITA NASAUD COUNTY LEVEL

Summary/Abstract: Based on current estimations, it can be stated that after 1989, Romania registered a continuous increase of the illegal drug trafficking and abuse, mainly because of a slow and uncoordinated response of the governmental authorities and the civil society. The study of the patterns of drug abuse, of the attitude towards drug abuse and drug addicts allows establishing an accurate database underpinning for new strategies în the field, as an adequate response to the current situation. The aim of implementing general population surveys is to obtain useful information regarding extend and trends of different drug abuse în population by determining the prevalence of drug abuse and establish its patterns. At the local level ( with regard to the prevalence of drug use în Bistrita-Nasaud), the study shows that illegal drugs use was more frequent în youth population, therefore prevention programs for drug use must address primarily the younger population ( 15 years old or even younger), în order to stall the onset age of drug use.
