Summary/Abstract: The results of case-study of at the Central Laboratory of Optical Storage and Processing of Information are presented. An attempt is made to reconstruct the two types of heterogeneous networks of human and non-human actors. These networks emerged during the process of innovation of two distinct product of the laboratory — holographic plates for art holography invented in late 1970-s and the rainbow holograms created in early 1990-s. The paper analyses the efforts in making interested relevant social actors and to "tame" corresponding non-human agents or their human representative. In doing so, some typical problems of the economics of technical change are explored — financing of innovation, diffusion of innovation, relationships between research lab and public institutions and private firms during the process of innovation. The time lag between the realization of two innovations give possibility to reveal some important differences in innovation network in the plan economy of 1970-s Bulgaria and emerging market economy in the country in early 1990-s.
