Summary/Abstract: The principle of a social market economy, presupposes the existence of regulators of business processes. These regulators create the state. They can affect the elements of the market mechanism. The challenges of the modern economy make companies ensure an adequate level of competitiveness. In view of global competition membership of the cluster structures can be a way of building sustainable growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore it is worth looking at effective operations aimed at supporting the development of clusters, both in Poland and in other countries. The author focuses on the selected cluster initiatives in Poland, Germany and Switzerland.
