Summary/Abstract: Nowadays economic regions are characterized by subjectivity, which is expressed by positioning at the local government level, the subjectivity of the community and through participation in the processes of socio-economic development. The theory of endogenous development implies the need to absorb innovations and the creation of innovation among the local community. Implementation of the concept of endogenous development requires appropriate policy interventions at the local level and the cooperation of public and private spheres. The article presents selected results of qualitative own research conducted in 2015 in the Leszno subregion among small and medium-sized enterprises, institutions and nongovernmental organizations. The article focuses on such factors as business environment institutions, supporting local initiatives as well as human and social capital. The analysis of the subregion allowed to formulate conclusions on the above issues.
