Summary/Abstract: This text refers to the travel logs of the poet Dimitrie Bolintineanu when visiting the Holy Places. This type of writing is a literary genre quite common among the Romanian writers of the second half of the 19th century. The Travels of Bolintineanu to the Holy Places are presented in two texts (Travels to Palestine and Egypt – 1856, and Travels to Jerusalem during Easter and to Egypt - 1867) that had the purpose to “visit Jerusalem and all the holy places.” However, these are not travels in the basic sense of a pilgrimage, but wishes to see those sacred lands, to step on the ground where the great wonders of our Savior took place. His detailed descriptions and accounts are enriched with pedantic references to various cultural sources, thus becoming true encyclopedic bookmarks. The travel logs of Dimitrie Bolintineanu to the Holy Land, fi rst published in 1856 and republished extensively in 1867 must undoubtedly be seen – beyond their literary beauty and touristic suggestion – as a profoundly nationalistic action of the political and strategic modern program of the Romanian revolution in 1848.
