Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Lithuanian milk produce export to the USA in the 4th Decade of the 20th Century. At that time the Pienocentras monopolised butter export and tried to expand the markets of its realisation. Since 1935 some tentative attempts had been made to find a niche in the USA marked noted for its high requirements and lower than European prices. When prices for butter decreased in foreign markets because of the world economic crisis, Lithuania‘s government started supporting butter producers and exporters by fixing stable prices for a kilogram of milk or produced butter inside the country. The government even compensated the differences of butter prices in the domestic and foreign markets, i.e. if the price for a kilogram of butter was less in a foreign market compared to that in Lithuania, the government compensated for the difference. The dumping policy of the Lithuanian government became widely known, and it negatively affected butter trade in the USA market. The USA government, naturally, defended the interests of their farmers; thus, the export of the Lithuanian butter into America was blocked. The issue of butter export into the USA was postponed for the future because the Lithuanian government, ignoring the conditions of the USA government, continued its financial support for the butter producers.
