Summary/Abstract: Television is generally considered one of the most powerful and complex means of propaganda. However, before being transformed in an instrument of cultural memory, television struggled to be recognized as an important institution and voice of the society. The development of the institution in the ‘70s was synchronized with the changes occurred within the communist society and the liberalizing politics of Nicolae Ceausescu. But to what extent the power of television was utilized by the Romanian communist political regime? Which were the technical means that television relied on? Thereby our study will focus on the technical means of the Romanian television in the ‘70s in order to understand its place in the process of propaganda and in the vision of the political power.
