THE FATE OF THE TRANSYLVANIAN SABBATARIANS THAT HAVE NOT PASSED TO THE JEWISH FATE IN 1866

Summary/Abstract: Sabbatarians in Transylvania were a religious group that emerged from the influence of the Reformation in the principality, being constituted around the year 1580. Given the fact that for almost 300 years the Transylvanian Sabbatarians went through a long period of all kinds of deprivations, intolerance and persecution, in this study it is presented the fact that in 1866, due to the emergence of some legal opportunities related to the emancipation of the Jews, a great majority of Transylvanian Sabbatarians left their ancestral faith and moved to the Jewish faith, except a small religious group represented by Sallós József. Although sabbatarians, most of them were Szeckler Hungarians, if they embraced the Jewish faith they were assimilated to the Jews and most of them were taken to fascist concentration camps and exterminated there. Therefore, after a history of 400 years, the last Sabbatarians, those from the religious group of Sallós József who have not adopted the Jewish faith, passed away around 1970-1980.
