Investments in renewable energy sources. An attempt to evaluate selected examples and their effectiveness

Summary/Abstract: The effectiveness of investments in renewable energy sources is analyzed, based on selected devices utilizing geothermal energy. The actual consumption of fuel oil in the period of 2007-2010 is examined, as used for heating a multi-family building. Despite considerable financial outlay at the initial stage, the investment proves profitable. As shown in the case study, the investment pays for itself after ca. 6 years, when the traditional energy source (fuel oils) is replaced by an alternative source (geothermal energy). The significance of renewable energy resources in modern economy is discussed. Other forms of co-financing the RES investment are analyzed, in the form of support programs addressed both to individual and corporate consumers, and designed to alleviate the initial outlay of investment.
