Evolution of sustainable development idea

Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development is based on the idea of resource efficiency oriented to environment protection. The dissemination of concepts from within this field as well as interest in them is changing. A significant role in this process is played by technological progress that causes improvements in management practice, including socio-economic sphere. The nature of changes of eco-efficiency – presently one of the basic elements in sustainable development – has not a subject for detailed bibliometric research until now. For this reason the aim of presented research was identification of trajectories in sustainable development evolution in the context of environmental efficiency. The analysis embraced three stages in the sustainable development history presented in relation to environmental technologies of resource efficient economy.
