Summary/Abstract: The problem of the minimum wage (MW) has not lost its relevance and has always been in the focus of the Bulgarian public. This is due not only to the large number of people who depend on it, but also to its macroeconomic significance. It is determined by the role played by the minimum wage in labour costs (especially in the private sector) and its relation to the level of labour efficiency, the gross domestic product, the inflation, the levels of employment and unemployment. This necessarily raises the question of the compliance with these macroeconomic indicators in the process of taking the decision to set and update the minimum wage. Of course, the European experience in this regard should not be ignored - the accumulation of good European practices is even advisable, especially in the aspects of the effectiveness of the mechanism of collective bargaining and the social dialogue.
