Summary/Abstract: A language achieves a genuinely global status when it develops a special role that is recognized in every country. Having such a status, the global language has to be of a great importance, influencing all the domains of the human activity in the world. For example English dominates such fields as the media, foreign language teaching, business etc. English is used as an official language of the Council of Europe that is used for daily work and official statements. This work synthesizes the evolution of Romanian vocabulary, and also of the different problems that words borrowed from English have raised in time. The massive loan of Anglo-American terms represents a socio-cultural phenomenon that occurred in most of the European languages. A very important role was held by mass-media which contributed to linguistic education for the public and also to internationalize the literary vocabulary.
