Summary/Abstract: The present work: Ion Barbu – the mathematician poet is a very brief incursion into the fascinating universe of Ion Barbu, pseudonym of mathematician Dan Barbilian. The paper presents few considerations about some of the pre ponderent symbols found in barbian poetry, egg, sun, mirror as well as some considerations regarding the symbolism associat ed to numbers, such as 3, 7, 12 etc. A Renaissance personality type, Ion Barbu, through his poetic work, brief in scope but with unparalleled lyrical meanings in the Romanian poetry to date, Ion Barbu transposes through his poetic discourse elements specific to the mathematical language into poetic transfigurations, forming a particular world which is in accordance with the most modern ideas of that beginning of a century. Thus, as remarked by notable figures of the literary critique, the barbian poetic language is enriched by the profound infusion of scientific terms and old meanings in formulae that while appearing almost cryptic at a first read enrich and intrigue at the same time, leading to an approaching full of cultural references, of philosophy or of fairy tales belonging to the local or to the world folklore.
