Old or New Folkloristic do We Need?

Summary/Abstract: The present article, presented as a keynote conference at the Transylvanian Museum Society in Cluj/Kolozsvár in February 2011, is a critical overview of Hungarian folkloristic researches on the Carpathian basin during the last centuries. The author, professor emeritus at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, indicates, after summarizing the results, the absence of comparative researches in folkloristic studies and proposes cooperation among the generations of researchers and interconnection between the new and the traditional scientifi c methods of research.
