Summary/Abstract: At a time that has constructed itself into the figure of lost self-understanding of the entire being, a reading of Nursi’s thought is a distinctive spiritual jouurney into a rare world of unity of thought and its stylistic shaping. There is no doubt that in Nursi’s work we are invited, in a particular fashion, into the heart of crucial questions that have “ceased” to be important in philossophy because it has ceased to address them. The thinker’s work is a kind of panegyric to knowledge, based on perception of the necessity of a radical re-examination of the values in which knowledge has “isolated” itself. In the wealth of writings on the triumph and power of knowledge, an excepttional place belongs to Nursi as a contemporary critic of the enlightenment modelling of truth. His works place the terms Truth, Humankind, Belief, Cosmos, Cognition and the like, as isolated within worldly bounds, on trial. Nursi’s work thus speaks of the possibility of knowledge that the Mystery of the world does not “feel” as its powerlessness, but rather, in the journey from the visible to the invisible, the traveller-connoisseur is within the link between two worlds. Knowledge is thus a journey in which the connoisseur and the world, the individual and the world generally, are in intimate relations. Nursi the thinker is now, precisely because of the extent of the loss of that link, which is the consequence of practising thought within the fascination of phenomena – the outcome of the “zeal of science” – a thinker who has left us distinctively modern works.
