Summary/Abstract: When creating its rule, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes also efffected the unification of the currency of all the state territories that became part of the new state. This monetary activity included promoting the dinar of the KSCS as the state’s unit of currency. But this currency conversion, from the formal legal perspective, entailed the legal theft of a large sun of Austro-Hungarian crowns from its citizens. This paper briefly describes how this occurred in practice. It should be noted, however, that there are some constraints on a fully objective treatment of the subject. The basic archive material of the Kingdom is located in a variety of archives in Belgrade, which was the capital of the state. The material has yet to be processed archivally, and is thus not accessible to researchers. However, some crucial facts have been published in Serbia on how the monetary system of the Kingdom was set up. When these and other relevant indicators are analyzed and compared, it is not hard to reach the approximate figures referred to in this paper.
