Summary/Abstract: The National Museum of Union holds a very important collection of terracotta figurines belonging to the Roman Age, that come from the territory of the ancient town Apulum and from two private collections that include pieces discovered in Ampelum (Zlatna). The restoration of pieces by specific techniques was necessary for the exhibitory valorization of the figurine collection. Examination of pieces identified the existence of some statuettes representing copies whose dimensions and identical aspect suggest their fabrication in the same pattern. Restoration was made with some clay copies made in patterns realized following whole pieces. Original fragments were included within clay positives, patterns being made after their shape. New plaster positives were poured within these patterns; the positives were matched together with original pieces. The technique of clay replicas or other materials obtained in patterns allows diverse approaches from the point of view of applying possibilities in the case of restoration of ceramic artefacts produced by pressing in moulds. The technique allowed both restoration of archaeological pieces and getting some moulds used for realization of some replicas or scientific copies.
