Summary/Abstract: The author reflects on the significance of the expression rajski przebyt in the second stanza of Bogurodzica (Theotokos, Mother of God). This leads to the conclusion that the common interpretation in the literature of the subject, i.e. ‘stay in paradise,’ is not convincing as too superficial. Linguistic analysis leads to the conclusion that the prayer for rajski prze–byt is asking for the recovery of a lost original perfect condition of man. This understanding of the text is anchored in the philosophical conception by Johannes Scotus Eriugena. This relationship can also suggest that Bogurodzica was created by an author representing the Cistercians’ milieu.
