Summary/Abstract: The pedagogical ideas of Professor P. Dovydaitis are discussed in the article. These ideas stimulate the improvement of the pedagogical process to prepare the younger generation for the "independent life of Lithuania". When initiating the pedagogical journal "Lithuanian school" and other scholarly journals, publishing his own work in them, representing the historical and methodical works of other authors, and analysing and evaluating them, Dovydaitis reveals his perception of the educational system and the cultivation of the individual. An analysis of Dovydaitis' and his contemporaries' work allows us to maintain that, in the opinion of the professor, "the school must stand for an integral world-view, cultural individuality that provides strength against internal and external handicaps" ("Lithuanian school", 1937). The professor, who understood well the situation of Lithuania, and especially the situation of the pedagogical community, to educate and teach society, and especially the pedagogical community, to be citizens of the nation, took responsibility for the cultivation of the younger generation.
