Summary/Abstract: The occult, mysterious, secret and magic character of the Kabbalah has unavoidably led to the emergence of a long series of legends about and around it. Little surprise, then, in the fact that these features led its Christian adepts to getting involved in movements with political ends. Many of the brotherhoods initiated in the Middle Ages, be they open – as was, in the beginning, the Order of the Knights Templar – or secret – such as the Rosicrucian Orders, the Masonic Lodges, etc. – were influenced by Jewish mysticism, and particularly by the Kabbalah.
