Multidimensionality of the Council of the European Union

Summary/Abstract: This article is focused on different aspects of the functioning of the Council of the European Union (EU). The Council‘s multi-dimensionality is a consequence of its different formal and informal roles. With more and more competences at the EU level, the Council became a highly fragmented structure. At the same time, this insistution acts as a club of member States executive powers, as compromise reaching forum, as an arena for power battle between Memeber States, and as the key institution for new modes of governance in the EU. Much more empirical research will be needed in order to achieve full understanding of the Council‘s actual functioning.
