Summary/Abstract: To efficiently manage an organization must ensure the smooth flow of information both within the organization and with external stakeholders. Organizations, which minimize the negative impact on the environment, pollution prevention and continuous improvement of environmental performance must communicate with stakeholders. A strategy for the implementation of the organization’s environmental policy very often requires action and cooperation with various stakeholders, who directly or indirectly affect the organization. These groups include market-related stakeholders (customers, employees, suppliers, retailers, wholesalers, competitors, shareholders and creditors) and a group with which the organization is related to the level of building the image and credibility of the so-called non-market stakeholders (local communities, NGOs, government agencies, social activists and the media). The article attempts to assess the role of communication with stakeholders in terms of improving the environmental performance of organizations. In this regard, there was used the experience and the results of organizations that have implemented an environmental management system according to ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, which require communication with stakeholders. It was hypothesized that by far the greater impact on improving the environmental performance of organizations have the requirements of the EMAS regulation than the international standard ISO 14001.
