Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze new forms of cooperation of biopharmaceutical companies based on the latest data from the ASAP (Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals) and presented at international conferences “ASAP Annual Global Alliance Summit 2012 − Mastering the Art and Science of Alliance “ in Las Vegas, “ASAP Annual Global Alliance Summit 2013 − Leadership. Performance. Value” in Orlando, as well as the ASAP 2012 BioPharma Conference in Cambridge and ASAP 2013 BioPharma Conference in Boston. In addition the examples of cooperation between companies, universities and research institutes in biotechnology sector in Poland are presented. The results of research carried out by ASAP show that modern large biopharma companies have in their portfolio from 20 to 40 concluded alliances with universities and research institutions. Biopharmaceutical companies are looking for new and innovative paths of development of new strategies to transfer their research processes and the development of new models of alliances. For this purpose, they use open innovation models as an additional means of developing new products. Thanks to the cooperation with universities in the framework of open innovation alliances biopharmaceutical companies can significantly reduce the risk, the cost of research programs, and above all increase the likelihood of better medical therapy for patients, through joint work with academic researchers on identifying disease mechanisms and the development of new drugs.
