Product and process innovation in the global competitiveness increase of the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the paper is the presentation of the role and significance of the product and process innovation in the global competitiveness increase of the European Union. The presentation of the innovation system and the innovation process, innovation system at regional level, innovation system in the competitiveness creation, and technological alliances belong to specific objectives of research. The problems were researched by quantity and quality scientific methods. First of all the descriptive, comparative, statistic and prognostic methods were used. Additionally deduction and induction methods were used. An important result of the research is the conclusion that in the innovation process, also in the European Union, the connection between science and industry is very important. There is positive dependence between innovation activity and effectiveness of the innovation process. More interaction and cooperation can be observed at the regional level than at the state one. A new program of the scientific and innovation research Europe 2020 and Innovation Union are very important factors of the global competitiveness increase of the European Union.
