The use of EU Structural Funds for investments in SMEs on the example of the Pomeranian region

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse possibilities to obtain and use EU Structural Funds for investment projects in SMEs from Pomerania Regional Operational Program-me 2007-2013 and examine effects of these projects on a regional basis. The analysis is based on the data from applications and the National Information System provided by the Pomerania Development Agency Inc. Results of the analysis confirmed geographi-cal and sectoral concentration of projects and low share of projects implemented in structurally weak areas. Competitiveness of Pomeranian firms has improved due to purchase of large number of fixed assets resulting in new and modernized products and services. Planned employment growth is of key importance for the region
