Summary/Abstract: Transnational corporations have been active in the world economy for hundreds of years – since the XVIth century – but new dimensions in their activities in the world economy have been observed since 1960. The activities of that type of companies are assessed differently. On one hand these companies create and have the access to technology, have huge technological and R&D capabilities, and marketing capabilities. They are also responsible for the creation of international trade and are the most important players on the market of FDI. However, on the other hand their market power sometimes is derived from their specific advantages which – on the selected markets – they are able to transform into political power without any accountability. They also use their specific advantages to generate market imperfections, remove competition and eliminate some conflicts, at the same time creating new ones, directly connected with their activities. In the article the author tries to assess the results of activities of these companies.
