Summary/Abstract: Major events and changes in any society leave behind a whole series of consequential, desired and undesired events, winners and losers, and can hardly get the final estimate, positive or negative. A population that has perceived going Ottomans as protective, or at least close to their spiritual and cultural being, was particularly exposed to influences of the major events at the end of the 19thcentury in Montenegro. Efforts of the authorities to establish more or less a unity in all segments of the territory included in the new state borders have created a distrust of this part of society. The need to retain and defend, at any cost, their previous identity, or to protect their lives of reprisals and inhuman treatment motivated: 1. Large migratory movements of the Muslim population 2. Spiritual retreat oriental-Islamic emergent segment of the Montenegrin society, its regrouping and seeking ways of more secure survival in fear of the domination of Christian traditional values and imposition of European cultural standards.
