Current account deficit of United States and global imbalances

Summary/Abstract: The article analysis low savings in United States as a one of main reasons of global imbalances. The decline in US savings since the second half of 90's reflects deterioration in public savings as well as in household savings. Household savings declined because of borrowing against increasing prices of equities and houses. The best way to reduce US current account deficit in the future is to raise the level of national savings by increasing private savings and reducing budget deficit.
