Summary/Abstract: The article aims at identification and evaluation of the structural changes taking place in the EU labour markets from the viewpoint of modernising the economy structure. Employment structure is an important measure while evaluating the structural changes in national economies. Different economies feature not only different dynamics but also different shifts in workforce flows. The employment structures of individual EU member countries were compared in terms of the scope of fluctuations in the share of individual NACE Rev. 2 categories in the national employment figure. Then the EU countries were clustered in relation to their respective values of Knowledge-Intensity of the Economy (KIE) index which shows the degree of structural change. In countries classified as those of poor knowledge intensity, the structural changes in labour markets have been arising from modernisation processes. There is a visible rise in employment figures in those service industries which rely on knowledge and information.
