Summary/Abstract: The article includes a statistical analysis of the scale of regional convergence in the EU in the period 2000-2011. In contrast to previous periods, nowadays there is an increase in the polarization of regional development in most countries. Therefore, the Cohesion Policy does not fulfill its compensatory function at the level of EU member countries. The comparisons of dynamic changes in disparities are methodically correct, but the article provides an extensive justification of limited comparability of regional disparities level in different countries. This is due to changes in the delimitation of the regions for the NUTS.
